They Are New Every Morning
No matter how things may appear, no matter what the media is telling us, we must always remember there is a better day coming. We are not home yet. The Bible is full of some incredible miracles, from the creation of this world to Jesus’s resurrection. We should always be willing to acknowledge what the Lord has done because our faith is built upon what we have both learned and personally witnessed.
But we also have to look forward to what the Lord wants to do for our lives today. If all we hung onto were memories, what would we care about tomorrow? The Apostle Paul tells us in the book of Ephesians to keep looking to the future and not the past. Our thinking is never to become stagnate. If it does, we will never have the abundant life that the Lord has planned for us. Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:7 …so that “in the ages to come” He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. This tells us that the future holds the opportunity. If we can believe and let faith arise in the capabilities the Lord has given us, He will do more than anything we can imagine. If you’re expectant of Christ, and are a follower of Him, you should count on Him to be a deliverer of what you ask, not just occasionally, but consistently and faithfully.
I think of Jesus when He fed the five thousand. He did not take a head count. His disciples complained that even if they had a place to buy food for the crowd, they wouldn’t have enough money. At that moment, Jesus didn’t reach in His pocket to check and see what he had in His wallet. He doesn’t want us to feel that way either. Instead, He took two fish and five loaves of bread and fed them all! Everyone single person had their fill, and there were still leftovers.
This story sometimes reminds me of my Italian mother. People would show up at our house unexpectantly and never left with an empty belly. She fed more people than I can remember. I am not sure how she did it on a fixed income, but she did. Maybe it’s because she had an expectancy that the Lord would always provide.
The Lord wants us to know that we can and should have an expectation like those these stories reveal. You might be thinking this is a high expectation. I would remind you that there is nothing out of the ability of the Lord. That’s the amazing God that I have been given the privilege to know and serve!
The prophet Jeremiah writes in the book of Lamentations 3:22-23: “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” The Lord is constantly doing new and amazing things for all of us. We may not see it at times, but He is working behind the scenes on our behalf. Even with the economy being as unpredictable as it is, even with inflation pressing through the roof, God wants to do wondrous things for us, far beyond what we have heard or seen, up to this point! Don’t let the devil or the false reports from the media get you discouraged and bummed out. Jesus tells us in the book of John, ‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’ There are greater levels of favor and blessings out there for us.
I remember a story once told to me… A little girl would not take a handful of cherries when the general store owner offered them to her. After several times of refusing, the owner told her to hold out her hands and he filled them to overflowing with the cherries she loved. On the way home, her Momma asked her why she would not just take a handful. She said, “He has bigger hands.”
God wants us to realize and come expecting Him on a daily basis, to fill our expectations with overflowing levels of blessings He has prepared us our entire lives! The Psalmist wrote, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation. Selah.”
I ask you today, how much do you want from the Lord? How much are you expecting from the Lord? Why not try lifting the bar of your expectation higher than yesterday’s provision! Dare to dream big! Dare to keep a God-sized vision in front of you! Make the Lord your partner, make your plans large, so large that there’s no way you could ever do them by yourself! Then hold out your hands in faith like the little girl from the story, and God will reward your expectation of faith, filling your hands to overflowing!
